Monday Motivation: Clean out your purse

What are the three words guaranteed to humiliate men everywhere?

'Hold my purse.'

My purse is a mess.  I really feel out of control when my purse is disorganized.

This really isn't my purse.  My purse isn't this bad but it's bad enough to cause me stressed out.
If your purse is stressing you out, here are the steps to clean it up.

1.  Take everything out of your purse.  Check all pockets and zippered areas.

2.  Have a trash can nearby.

3.  Sort items by type (receipts together, makeup in a pile, scraps of paper with info scribbled on them collected, pens/pencils together etc.)

4.  Go through your wallet and other accessories and clean them out using step 3.  Make a copy of your credit cards and keep it in a file in case your purse is lost or stolen.

5.  Turn the purse upside down and shake all residue out.  Wipe out the inside of the purse with a damp cloth and allow to dry.

6.  Now is a great time to change out your purse for a new one.  I just got a bright green bag for a new autumn look.

7. Organize your wallet, removing any outdated cards or information.  How old are the pictures of your children?

8.  Start replacing items into the purse, placing often used items in easily accessible locations.

9.  Rethink what you carry around in your purse.  Do you really need 5 writing utensils?  How often do you use hand lotion?  Remember that every item you carry around needs to be worth the extra weight it creates in your purse.

10.  Use card holders, zippered pouches, and planners to organize your items.  It's easier to find items when they are "containerized".  I keep my store punch cards and discount cards in a photo holder.  I also use a small zippered pouch to hold make up, glasses cleaning cloth, hand cream, and tape measure.  I could keep these in the zippered portion of my purse, but a separate pouch makes changing purses so much faster.

11.  Copy all of the info from the scraps of paper into your planner.  Throw the scraps away.

This whole job should only take 15 minutes of your time (not including shopping for a new purse!).  Be sure to share how you organize your purse.  If you dare, share the strangest thing you found in your purse.

I was excited to find my latest slipcovers featured on Pink and Polkadot!

  1. Oh, my. I shudder to think what strange things may be lurking in my purse! I have no real organization for it... just dump things in for days on end and purge when necessary. I do try to carry a very small bag when travelling. This prevents me from dumping the entire trip into the conveniently large tote bag my dear husband purchased for me!

  2. I found a french fry in my purse last week. How it got there remains a mystery.

How To Make Your Own Exercise Bike For Next To Nothing

Remember back in April when I had a kidney transplant?  Well, the kidney is doing great (thanks, Cathy , for taking such good care of it when you owned it).  There was one little glitch, however.  During surgery, the retractors they used caused some nerve damage in my right leg.  When I woke up from surgery, I couldn't move or feel my leg.  The docs felt like the feeling would come back but the paralysis had them stumped.  A visit to a neurologist ruled out a stroke and a CT scan showed some fluid which was pressing on L4 and L5 (medical talk which means I couldn't feel or move part of my leg).  The prognosis is good and I'm recovering pretty quickly.  In fact, I've left my cane behind and I'm walking freestyle without falling.  My next goal is to be able to drive. I've been itching to get back to exercising (physical therapy doesn't count) because my medication causes me to gain weight and I need to burn some calories.  Running? - nope.  Walking? - can&

A Designer's Secret For A Taller Bed

Several years ago Hubs and I spent almost a year looking for a bedroom set that we both loved.  He wanted clean lines and dark wood.  I wanted curves and a "tall" bed.  Of course, there was no perfect bedroom set but we were able to compromise on a set that we both liked.  My main wish was for a bed that I could "climb up into".  The problem with that wish was that most of the "tall" beds were four poster beds and Hubs was not in the mood for that.  We found a Thomasville bed on display at a local furniture store and it fit the clean lines that Hubs wanted and it was "tall"  enough to suit me.  The problem was that once we received the bed we ordered in our home, it wasn't as tall as I had remembered it being.  My heart sunk!  I went back to the furniture store to look at the display.  Their bed was much taller than our bed.  Hmmm. . . what was different? I got nosey and lifted up the comforter on the bed.  It revealed their secret

Plans For A DIY Exercise Bike Stand

Thank you to so many of you who emailed me about plans for the DIY Exercise Bike Stand .  I apologize that it has taken me so long to get the measurements to you, but they are finally here!   The wood was purchased at Home Depot and the bike pegs were purchased at Walmart in the bike section.    The bike we used for this project is a 24" 12 speed bike (I'm a shorty).  I used the hardest gear while riding, but this set-up does not allow you to really get much resistance (for building muscle).  It was great for getting my legs moving after some nerve damage.  I also wanted to burn calories and get my heart rate up and this did the trick.    If you have any questions, just shoot me an email.
