Starting The Kitchen Remodel


A kitchen remodel is not a project to be taken lightly - or quickly.

Hubs and I have been talking about a kitchen remodel since before we moved into our house almost 7 years ago.  We didn't want to move too quickly on making any changes and we agreed to live in the house for a year to see how we "fit" in it before making any improvements.

Well, one year after we moved in I was diagnosed with ESRD (End Stage Renal Disease) and was told I would need a kidney transplant.  We decided to put all house plans on hold.  We had no idea what our future held and we didn't want  to get into anything over our heads or spend any extra money in case I wouldn't be able to work.




Since the kidney transplant last year, my health and strength have greatly improved and I'm back to working regularly.  We added a free-standing island to help with storage and work surface and we've had to replace the stove and fridge. 

Our kitchen has limped along pretty well.  Some of the cabinets are crooked and several drawers won't open without splitting apart.  The plumbing is starting to act up and the sliding back door doesn't want to cooperate.  The dishwasher is dying a slow death and the electrical outlets are possessed.   It seems to be time to start the planning process. 


I've been pinning ideas for the new kitchen and am starting to get excited about the improvements that can be made. Hubs is drawing up plans and we'll be talking to a contractor soon.  I'm starting to get excited. 

These are the hardworking hands of my most favorite person in the whole world - my husband's.

    Proceed with caution when choosing a contractor. We did a kitchen makeover this past winter, have had a major problem, and can't even get the contractor to call us anymore. It was very disappointing, as this was someone who did our church's assembly hall, goes to our church, and someone we thought we could trust. I don't want to be accused of slander, but if you want the name of the company, I'll be glad to email it to you. Sue T.

    I am so excited for you! After having worked in your kitchen before, and only for two days, I can attest to the fact that you really deserve and desperately need a makeover! I can't wait to see the process begin! :-D

A Designer's Secret For A Taller Bed

  Several years ago Hubs and I spent almost a year looking for a bedroom set that we both loved.  He wanted clean lines and dark wood.  I wanted curves and a "tall" bed.  Of course, there was no perfect bedroom set but we were able to compromise on a set that we both liked.  My main wish was for a bed that I could "climb up into".  The problem with that wish was that most of the "tall" beds were four poster beds and Hubs was not in the mood for that.  We found a Thomasville bed on display at a local furniture store and it fit the clean lines that Hubs wanted and it was "tall"  enough to suit me.  The problem was that once we received the bed we ordered in our home, it wasn't as tall as I had remembered it being.  My heart sunk!  I went back to the furniture store to look at the display.  Their bed was much taller than our bed.  Hmmm. . . what was different? Plans For A DIY Exercise Bike Stand

  Thank you to so many of you who emailed me about plans for the DIY Exercise Bike Stand .  I apologize that it has taken me so long to get the measurements to you, but they are finally here!   The wood was purchased at Home Depot and the bike pegs were purchased at Walmart in the bike section.    The bike we used for this project is a 24" 12 speed bike (I'm a shorty).  I used the hardest gear while riding, but this set-up does not allow you to really get much resistance (for building muscle).  It was great for getting my legs moving after some nerve damage.  I also wanted to burn calories and get my heart rate up and this did the trick.    If you have any questions, just shoot me an email.
