We've had a few volunteers in our garden this year.
Three pumpkins started growing all by themselves. They most likely came from seeds in our compost.
They made themselves at home in the pathway between the raised beds. We added extra straw underneath them so they wouldn't rot on the bottom.
The dragon flies like them too!
** Our curious chickens found how tasty the pumpkins were the day after I took these photos. They pecked holes in all three pumpkins. So. . . I've spent the last few days processing pumpkin pulp and seeds to freeze. So I have quite a few bags of pumpkin puree in my freezer. I love FREE food!

I love the picture with the dragonflies on the pumpkins--very cool!
ReplyDeleteYay for volunteers, boo for chickens that eat them:) The pumpkins are/were lovely. I think it is great that you are preserving them. Do you bake with the puree? I grew sugar pumpkins for that very purpose, but it is all new to me:)

ReplyDeleteAwesome! My pumpkins are leafy, with no pumpkins:(
ReplyDeleteI bet those would've been huge by the end of the season- mine are all still green. :-)
