How I Polish My Brick Floors So They Look Like New

One of the jobs I've completed in my flurry of nesting is polishing my brick and wood floors.  My floors are finished with  polyurethane and send to look dull after awhile.

I polish them every 6 months or so.

First, I remove all the furniture from the area, vacuum the floor, and mop it with Sparkle Cleaner.

Then, I polish it with Holloway House polish.

Here, you can see my brick floor with the left side polished and the right side is only cleaned.

After the floor is dry (about 30 minutes), I replace the rug and furniture and move onto the next section.  I  feel like I have a new floor.

*Holloway House has not compensated me for my opinion.

  4. "Sparkle Cleaner" is just my homemade cleaner that makes everything in my home sparkle when I clean with it. You can make your own by mixing 1/4 cup of any kind of vinegar plus 3 TBL. rubbing alcohol into an empty spray bottle. Fill it with water and shake to mix. It works great on most surfaces but be sure to test it on a small area first to make sure it won't damage anything.

How To Make Your Own Exercise Bike For Next To Nothing

Remember back in April when I had a kidney transplant?  Well, the kidney is doing great (thanks, Cathy , for taking such good care of it when you owned it).  There was one little glitch, however.  During surgery, the retractors they used caused some nerve damage in my right leg.  When I woke up from surgery, I couldn't move or feel my leg.  The docs felt like the feeling would come back but the paralysis had them stumped.  A visit to a neurologist ruled out a stroke and a CT scan showed some fluid which was pressing on L4 and L5 (medical talk which means I couldn't feel or move part of my leg).  The prognosis is good and I'm recovering pretty quickly.  In fact, I've left my cane behind and I'm walking freestyle without falling.  My next goal is to be able to drive. I've been itching to get back to exercising (physical therapy doesn't count) because my medication causes me to gain weight and I need to burn some calories.  Running? - n...

Plans For A DIY Exercise Bike Stand

Thank you to so many of you who emailed me about plans for the DIY Exercise Bike Stand .  I apologize that it has taken me so long to get the measurements to you, but they are finally here!   The wood was purchased at Home Depot and the bike pegs were purchased at Walmart in the bike section.    The bike we used for this project is a 24" 12 speed bike (I'm a shorty).  I used the hardest gear while riding, but this set-up does not allow you to really get much resistance (for building muscle).  It was great for getting my legs moving after some nerve damage.  I also wanted to burn calories and get my heart rate up and this did the trick.    If you have any questions, just shoot me an email.

The Finished Kitchen Remodel

Yes, we survived the kitchen remodel and I'm back to blogging again - I hope.  The kitchen has been done for about 6 weeks now but between my camera breaking and some glitches with loading photos into blogger, I've been an absentee blogger.  A big thanks to those of you who were concerned about me and checked in on me.   So. . . do you want a tour of the new space? A few months ago, my kitchen looked like this. . . And this. . . And this. . . And there was a window looking down from our upstairs bedroom. . . Then we decided to remodel and went through this for awhile. . . And some of this. . .  The room was finally starting to take shape.   And then we had this!! I wasn't sure what I was going to do about the island.  I really liked the functionality of the piece, but it was too busy and too white.  My new cabinets are a vanilla color and the white island was just stark. ...
